AMHERST, Mass. -- Bates College men's soccer took to the road Saturday to renew its rivalry with Amherst College as the #7 Mammoths shut out the visiting Bobcats, 4-0, in NESCAC action.
Laurens ten Cate (Jr.-Westport, Conn.) and Shawn Rapal (Sr.-San Jose, Calif.) provided the scoring in the first half for Amherst with respective tallies at 26:02 and 38:28 to put the Mammoths ahead 2-0. Ioannis Hadjiyiannis (So.-Nicosia, Cyprus) personally recorded a pair of goals of his own in the second stanza to double the home team's advantage en route to the Amherst's fifth win (5-0-1, 2-0-1 NESCAC) of the season.
Amherst outshot its guest by a 17-12 margin, including an 8-4 surplus on frame.
Cesar Hoover did all he could to get the Bobcats on the board as the sophomore forward had a game-high three shots on goal for the garnet and white.
Max Landa (Sr.-La Crescenta, Calif.) collected four saves overall in the complete-game victory for the Mammoths.
Trevor Hammond also gathered four denials in 90:00 for the Bobcats.
Bates (2-4, 0-3 NESCAC) now moves on to Middlebury College as the Bobcats prepare to take on the #17 Panthers Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
