RICHMOND, Va. -- 13 Bobcats have earned Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their performances in the pool and in the classroom.
The CSCAA recognized a total of 2,290 (1,270 women and 1,020 men) swimmers and divers as Scholar All-Americans for the 2022-23 season.
"Congratulations to these exceptional student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding achievements both in the classroom and in their sport," said Executive Director,
Samantha Barany. "The CSCAA takes pride in recognizing individuals who excel in academics while competing at the highest level."
To be named to the First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participate in their respective national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and met the "B" time standard for the national championship or participated in a diving zone qualification meet.
Bates men's swimming student-athletes earning Scholar All-America honors this year are:
Nathan Berry '23 (Psychology-4.00 GPA),
Max Cory '26 (Undeclared-3.50),
Edmond Giang '23 (Biology-4.00),
Mark Gregory '24 (Neuroscience-3.92),
John Marcolina '23 (Economics-3.56),
Nate Pierce '26 (Undeclared-3.92),
Nate Sommer '23 (Economics-3.66), and
Marrich Somridhivej '26 (Undeclared-4.00).
On the women's front, five Bobcats earned Scholar All-America accolades, including:
Sophie Cassily '25 (Undeclared-3.53 GPA),
Abigail Gibbons '23 (Biology-3.92),
Marjorie McLeod '24 (Chemistry-3.75),
Grace Wenger '24 (Biochemistry-3.92), and
Natalie Young '24 (Neuroscience-4.00).
With men's swimming & diving sporting a grade-point average of 3.64, and the women's program collecting a hefty mark of 3.69, both programs have earned the status of CSCAA 2022-23 Spring Scholar All-America Teams.
Teams were selected on the basis of their Spring 2023 team grade point averages and represent 17,497 student-athletes.
