LEWISTON, Maine -- Leading by a slim 7-4 margin at intermission, #5 Tufts turned on the jets with seven unanswered tallies in the third quarter to go ahead by 10 as the visiting Jumbos secured an eventual 16-6 NESCAC women's lacrosse road win Wednesday at Bates College.
Tufts, with the win, improves to 8-2 (4-1 NESCAC) while the Bobcats slip to 5-8 overall (1-7 NESCAC).
Trailing by a score of 6-1 with 8:56 left in the second period, Bates countered by netting two of the next three goals in the frame to inch to within three at the break.
Margie Carden, the Jumbos' leading scorer on the season topped all players with five goals, giving the sophomore a team-leading 34 on the year. Caroline Walter authored a hat trick in the victory while Genna Gibbons, Emma Joyce, and Allie Zorn poured in two goals apeice for Tufts.
Maddy Roelofs (Jr.-Rye, N.H.) paced Bates with two goals on the night as five different Bobcats collected scores in the effort.
Cammie Lavoie (Epping, N.H.) went the full 60:00 in frame for the home team as the senior keeper collected 16 saves for the garnet and white. Courtney Kaufman earned the win for Tufts, recording a lone save in her 30:00 of action (first half). Pascale de Buren played the entire second stanza for the Jumbos, also gathering one save in 30:00.
The Bobcats close out their home slate this Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. NESCAC home contest vs. Connecticut College. Bates will honor its senior class during a special pregame ceremony.
