13 Bobcats Net Goals as Bates Sinks Maine Maritime, 24-2

Dan Annino Earns First Win as Head Coach of Garnet and White

LEWISTON, Maine -- 13 different Bobcats tallied goals Tuesday night as Bates College men's lacrosse secured its first win of the season with an emphatic 24-2 defeat of Maine Maritime Academy on historic Garcelon Field.

Bates' 24 goals falls just three short of the single-game program record of 27, established on March 19, 2014 vs. Husson College (W, 27-0). The victory marks the first career "W" for head coach Dan Annino, who took the helm last July.

The garnet-and-white ran off a flurry of 24 unanswered scores, but lost its shutout bid as the Mariners (3-3) finally found the back of the net at the 4:46 and 3:12 marks of the fourth-and-final frame. Bates absolutely dominated the shot column, 78-23, with a 49-10 advantage on frame.

Wil Masterson (Jr.-York, Maine) paced the Bobcat offense with his five goals and seven total points in the rout. Javi Werner (So.-Brookine, Mass.) recorded a hat trick for the first three career goals by the sophomore. First-year Jake Anastas (Fy.-Cape Neddick, Maine) also contributed a hat trick for the initial tallies of his collegiate career.

Brian Hart (Fy.-Atlanta, Ga.) and Will Schinabeck (Sr.-Shaker Heights, Ohio) put in a pair of goals and dished two helpers apiece for the Bobcats. Navaar Naimie (Sr.-York, Maine) added two scoring efforts for Bates.

Jackson Williams (Sr.-Cumberland, Maine) claimed 12 of 18 face-off attempts while securing a game-high 10 ground balls. Garrett FitzSimons (Sr.-Garden City, N.Y.) was credited with the goalkeeping victory with four saves over his 35:29 of action.

Maine Maritime goalies, Garrett Ruszkowski (30:00) and Zach McCarthy (30:00) did all they could to keep the Mariners afloat, combining for 25 total saves.

Bates (1-6) now returns to NESCAC play this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Williams College.
