LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates senior captain
Morgan Kennedy was named the Maine Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) poured in 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bates women's basketball team to a 58-50 win over Husson last Tuesday night.
With the Bobcats holding on to a seven-point edge and Husson on a 5-0 run, Kennedy blocked Trinity Montigny's layup with 55 seconds left. Bates recovered the loose ball and eventually ran out the clock for the victory. It was Kennedy's second blocked shot of the contest.
Bates took the lead for good when Kennedy drilled a three with 9:31 left in the second quarter, breaking a 13-13 tie. Kennedy hit 3-7 from long range in the contest.
Through seven games, Kennedy leads the Bobcats (6-1) in scoring at 11.6 points per game. She shares Player of the Week honors with Bowdoin's Sydney Jones. Kennedy is the first Bobcat to be honored as an MWBCA Player of the Week since
Meghan Graff '23, who won it three times last season.
This marks the second time in her collegiate career Kennedy has been honored by the MWBCA. She was the Maine Co-Rookie of the Week on Dec. 7, 2021.
