HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bates field hockey coaching staff has been honored as the best in the NESCAC, and three Bobcats earned all-conference honors, as announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Bates coaches
Dani Kogut,
Morgan DeMann, and
Ian Wagge earned the inaugural NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year Award for leading the No. 7 nationally ranked Bobcats to their most wins in one season since 1982 (12), and to the program's best NESCAC record ever (7-3). On Sunday, the Bobcats found out they'd made the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.
Kogut is in her 11th year as the head coach of the Bates field hockey program and has led Bates to a winning record in five of the past seven seasons. DeMann is in her third season as an assistant coach for the Bobcats and Wagge is in his fourth year.
Junior
Anna Cote (Auburn, Maine), senior captain
Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine), and senior captain
Molly Griffin (Holden, Mass.) earned All-NESCAC honors.
Anna Cote is a first team All-NESCAC selection, having scored a team-leading 10 goals through 17 games so far in 2023, including three game-winners. She's also dished out three assists on the year. This is the first All-NESCAC honor of Anna's career. She was previously named the NESCAC Player of the Week on Oct. 2 after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime at Trinity.
Paige Cote and Griffin were both named second team All-NESCAC, with Paige leading the team in points with 24, having scored eight goals, including one game-winner, and dished out a team-high eight assists. Cote's 31 career assists are the most in program history. This is the second All-NESCAC honor of Paige's career, having been named first team All-NESCAC a year ago.
Griffin has anchored a stout Bates defense, and she's delivered the insert on the majority of penalty corners this year for Bates. She has tallied two goals and dished out four assists, with one game-winning tally. This is the first All-NESCAC honor of Griffin's career. She was previously named the NESCAC Player of the Week on Oct. 9 after Bates posted back-to-back shutout wins over Hamilton and Wesleyan.
This is the first time since 2008 the field hockey team has had more than one player named to the All-NESCAC teams. The trio of Bobcats earning all-conference honors represent the most All-NESCAC selections in one season in program history.
The Bobcats continue their season this Wednesday at 6pm when they host Johnson & Wales in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
