STANDISH, Maine -- Bates College closed out the regular-season portion of its schedule Wednesday evening as the Bobcats, behind 12 kills from
Sophia Castiglioni and a
Chrissy Chu double-double, defeated Saint Joseph's College, 3-0, in a final tune-up before Friday's NESCAC Women's Volleyball Championship.
With the cancelation of the Bobcats' road matches at Amherst (Friday) and Williams (Saturday) last week, the conference regular season was not completed in full, resulting in the NESCAC Volleyball Tournament being adjusted to an 11-team format.
Bates, entering the event as the #11 seed, will travel to Williamstown, Mass. six days later than originally planned and take on the #6 Ephs Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the NESCAC First Round.
In Tuesday action, the Bobcats (7-14) dropped the Monks by scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-23 to provide the garnet and white a three-game winning streak heading into the postseason. All three of those triumphs resulted in 3-0 finals.
The aforementioned Castiglioni finished the night with a .364 hitting average as her 12 kills qualified as a new season-high for the first-year. Chu authored her seventh double-double performance of the year as the junior setter dished 28 assists and settled 11 digs.
Ellie Asada paced the Bobcat lineup with her 22 digs.
Ami Evans and
Eden Lorin provided 11 and 10 digs, respectively, in the non-conference tilt.
