LEWISTON, Maine -- Coming off Saturday's epic 2-0 besting of #17 Hamilton, Bates College was unable to carry that momentum into Sunday play as the Bobcats suffered a 4-0 defeat to visiting Wesleyan University in a second-straight NESCAC tilt.
The Cardinals (6-3-2, 3-2-2 NESCAC) kicked off the scoring early in the first half as Lina Rodriguez netted her second of the season at the 8:51 mark of the initial stanza. The Wesleyan lead doubled to 2-0 at 9:00 even as an ill-advised header by a Bates defender ended up in the Bobcats' net for an own goal.
Holding on to its two-goal surplus, Wesleyan's Audrey Lavey and Riley Buehler each added their third goals of the year with deposits at 86:04 and 87:05, respectively. The victors outshot their host by a healthy margin of 18-7, which includes an 11-4 advantage on frame.
Bates (2-6-3, 1-5-1 NESCAC) will sit idle until Saturday when the garnet and white visits #7 Tufts University for a 12:00 p.m. conference showdown.
