LEWISTON, Maine -- A pair of first-half goals from
Anna Masumoto and
Maeve Parmelee not only snapped a five-game scoreless streak for Bates College, but also put the Bobcats in the NESCAC win column for the first time this season as the garnet and white pulled off a stunning 2-0 upset of #17 (and undefeated) Hamilton Saturday.
The victory marks the second season in a row that Bates has knocked off a nationally-ranked conference foe, topping #20 Tufts last October 15.
Masumoto's first collegiate goal came at the 21:28 mark when the junior midfielder ripped into a loose ball in front of the Hamilton cage and buried a blast just inside of the left post for the initial 1-0 lead. Parmelee followed just 4:07 later (25:35) as the senior gathered a perfect
Rachel Suh feed, dribbled a few strides, and laced a liner into the left side of the net for the insurance tally.
Despite the final result, Hamilton (5-1-3, 3-1-3 NESCAC) still doubled up the Bobcats, 18-9 (5-2 on frame), in the shots column.
Ruby Reimann pocketed five saves in 90:00 between the pipes for Bates, providing the junior the first shutout victory of her career.
The Bobcats (2-5-3, 1-4-1 NESCAC) look to make it two wins in a row Sunday when they host Wesleyan University at 12pm on Russell Street Track & Field.
