LEWISTON, Maine -- Three different Bobcats found the back of the net as Bates College snapped its two-game slide in dynamic fashion Sunday with a 3-0 home victory over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference women's soccer action. The match marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
After a scoreless first half,
Lily Houser broke the 0-0 stalemate in the 53rd minute (52:04) as the junior collected a midfield feed from
Izzy Lussier and fired a strike to the bottom right of the Colby-Sawyer frame for the tally.
Lussier also provided the assist on Bates' second goal of the half, settling a
Mollie Franklin corner kick and then planting a perfect pass to the forehead of
Olivia Becker, who promptly one-timed home her second score of the season at 64:25.
The third-and-final score was the most majestic of the afternoon as
Anna Masumoto gathered a pass from Becker and blasted a missile from about 30 yards out into the upper left of the net at 69:32, providing the junior a tally for the second-straight weekend (10/7 vs. Hamilton).
Bates absolutely dominated the shots column, 34-2, with a 14-1 rout on target.
Sydney Litney (one save) was credited with the goalkeeping win for the victors as the first-year net-minder played the entire second stanza (45:00).
Samantha Bunar started for the Bobcats and faced no shots on frame in her 45:00 of work.
The garnet and white (3-7-3) will return to action this Saturday when the Bobcats host Connecticut College in NESCAC play. Bates will honor seniors
Maeve Parmelee,
Rachel Lowell,
Dargan Harris,
Charlotte Jones,
Haley Fenlon, and Lussier before taking on the Camels at 11:00 a.m. on Garcelon Field.
