MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bates College men's soccer still seeks its first taste of a NESCAC triumph as the Bobcats suffered a 3-1 setback Saturday at Tufts College.
The Jumbos (8-1-3, 4-1-2 NESCAC) took an almost immediate lead in the contest when Ben Pensky (So.-Knoxville, Tenn.) found the back of the net (2nd of season) for the home team just 4:23 into the contest. Teammates Max Clivio (Sr.-Kingston, Jamaica) and Mikey Brady (Sr.-Washington, D.C.) also registered their second goals of the season with tallies at 56:30 and 68:54, respectively, to take a healthy 3-0 advantage.
Tife Agunloye erased a three-game scoreless streak for the Bobcats as the junior forward knocked home a
Cesar Hoover helper at 80:45 for his team-leading third goal of the year. The Jumbos owned an 18-5 shot advantage (7-4 on frame) in the victory.
Nicola Antic (So.-Waltham, Mass.) collected three saves (90:00) to earn the win in goal for Tufts.
Trevor Hammond made four save in a complete-game performance for the Bobcats.
Bates (2-9-1, 0-8 NESCAC) returns home to host the University of Maine-Farmington in a non-conference showdown this Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. on Russell Street Track & Field.
