Lewiston, Maine (Russell Street Track & Field) - A pair of first-half tallies would be all Amherst College needed as the #11 Mammoths held on for a 2-0 NESCAC women's soccer victory at Bates College.
Amherst's leading scorer, Abby Schwartz (Alpharetta, Ga.) connected on her sixth of the season as the junior forward booted home a loose ball off a Mammoths' corner kick at the 10:17 mark of the first stanza. Teammate Alexa Juarez (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) followed with a blast from the top of the circle in the 20th minute (19:35), marking the senior's first score of the year.
The victors controlled the action most of the contest, outshooting the Bobcats 21-4 (5-2 on frame), while also taking 11 corner kicks in the match. Mika Fisher (Jr.-Englewood, Colo.) improves to 5-1 for Amherst with two saves over 90:00.
Samantha Bunar (Lynnfield, Mass.) went the distance for Bates as the first-year keeper secured three saves for the garnet and white.
Amherst moves to 5-1 (3-0 NESCAC) on the year while the Bobcats see its ledger evened at 3-3 (0-3 NESCAC).
Bates returns to the pitch on Sunday with another home contest, this time vs. #17 Middlebury College. Start time is set for 12:00 pm. on Russell Street Track & Field.
