Clean Sweep for Bates as Bobcats Knock off Regis, Smith in Bonnie May Volleyball Invite

Boxscore vs. Regis
Boxscore vs. Smith

Northampton, Mass. - Bates College navigated through Saturday's Bonnie May Invitational (hosted by Smith College) unscathed as the Bobcats upended both Regis College and the home team Pioneers in straight sets to complete the first week of the season with a solid 3-1 record.

The garnet-and-white put Friday night's 3-0 setback at #23 Babson well behind them as the Bates bumped off Regis (3-5) by scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-19 to start the day.

Alyssa Lowther (Wyckoff, N.J.) topped all players with her nine kills, followed by Ami Evans (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Julia Neumann (Norwell, Mass.) with seven apiece. Neumann was also a force above the net as the sophomore floored three blocking assists and a pair of solo efforts in the win. Evans paced the victors with her eight digs. Emma Eide (Ramsey, N.J.) distributed a match-best 22 helpers.

In the nightcap, the Bobcats snapped Smith's four-game winning streak, sending off the Pioneers (5-2) by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19.

Lowther again headlined the kills column with her match-high of 10 for Bates. Eide authored a line consisting of six kills, six digs, and a game-best 20 assists. Evans provided eight digs and six kills while Ellie Asada (Honolulu, Hawaii)  collected nine digs, three aiders, and a trio of service aces.

The Bobcat duo of Lowther and Neumann went on to represent the garnet and white on the All-Tournament team, announced at the conclusion of the event.

Bates earns some well-deserved rest as the Bobcats will not return to action until Friday night (6:00 pm) with a visit to Bowdoin College in the NESCAC opener for both squads.
