Sydney Byrnes and sophomore
Salma Alsikafi won a pivotal match at No. 2 doubles, helping propel the Bates women's tennis team to a 7-2 win over Endicott Sunday afternoon at the Wallach Tennis Center.
With Bates trailing 1-0 in doubles play, Byrnes (Aix-en-Provence, France) and Alsikafi (Lake Bluff, Ill.) earned an 8-7 (7-1) win over Endicott's Ashley Keaveney and Shelby Henry.
That evened the match at one apiece and first-years
Drew Williams (Guilford, Conn.) and
Olivia Gidlow (Cleveland, Ohio) put Bates up 2-1 with an 8-1 win over Olivia Martinelli and Olivia Berler at No. 3 doubles.
Williams turned in another dominating performance in singles play, winning at No. 6 by a count of 6-1, 6-0 over Keaveney. Byrnes rolled to victory at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Berler.
Now up 4-1, the Bobcats (5-7) clinched the match over the Gulls (13-5) when junior
Laura Littlefield (Ellicott City, Md.) defeated Martinelli 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) also won in straight sets, beating Endicott's Lejla Guster 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. First-year
Elizabeth Frekko (Lake Forest, Ill.) earned a hard-fought win at No. 5 singles, prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 over Henry.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday at 4pm when they host rival Bowdoin at the Wallach Tennis Center.
