Charlie Hansen took home first place in the pole vault, highlighting the Silfen Invitational Friday and Saturday for the Bates men's outdoor track and field team.
Bates scored 93.5 points as a team, good for third place out of 20 schools competing and five and half points ahead of fourth-place Springfield
Hansen (Washington, D.C.) matched his personal record from a week ago, clearing the bar at 14-7.25 (4.45m) for the victory. Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the discus (154-7), hammer throw (174-2), and the javelin (179-2).

Ryan Smith (Westport, Conn.) scored four points with a ninth-place finish in the 10,000 meters. His time of 30:55.04 puts Smith sixth all-time on the Bates performance list.

John Mieszczanski (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed sixth in the 1500 meters, breaking four minutes with a personal record time of 3:59.96.

Chidubem Umeh (Randolph, Mass.) tied for sixth in the high jump at 5-10.75 (1.80m).
The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday when they host the Maine State Meet.
