Women's tennis battles hard in 9-0 loss at undefeated No. 5 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Bates women's tennis team competed against undefeated and No. 5 nationally Wesleyan on Sunday, falling 9-0 on the road.

The Cardinals (12-0, 7-0 NESCAC) got the morning match started by taking all three doubles matches. Bates senior captain Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) hung tough at No. 1 doubles against Wesleyan's Caitlyn Ferrante and Sasha Gaeth, before falling 8-0.

In singles play, Rozin gave Ferrante all she could handle at No. 1, losing 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in a tight battle at the top of the lineup. Meanwhile, Friedman had a strong second set in her match, falling to Kristina Yu by a count of 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.

Bates (4-6, 2-3 NESCAC) is back in action this Saturday at 2pm for the team's first home match of the spring, a NESCAC showdown with rival Colby at the Wallach Tennis Center.
