LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior
Jordyn Tveter scored a pair of goals in the Bates women's lacrosse team's 17-3 loss to No. 17 nationally ranked Wesleyan Saturday at Garcelon Field.
The Bobcats (1-2, 0-1 NESCAC) fell behind the Cardinals (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) early in the contest, allowing six unanswered goals to start, including one less than a minute in.
Laura Baine and Olivia Lai paced the visitors with three goals each. Baine also dished out a game-high three assists.
Tveter (Topsfield, Mass.) got Bates on the board with 4:43 left in the first quarter, taking advantage of a player-up situation for the first of her two goals on the day. She also recorded a team-high four ground balls, caused a turnover, and secured three draw controls.
Another Tveter goal cut the Wesleyan lead to 7-2 with 1:11 left in the first quarter. But the Cardinals answered quickly, going up 8-2 on Baine's third goal of the opening 15 minutes.
The Bobcats didn't score again until sophomore
Hanna Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) found the back of the net on an assist from first-year
Caroline Taggart (Concord, Mass.) with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter.
Junior
Cammie Lavoie (Epping, N.H.) played all 60 minutes in goal for Bates and recorded nine saves. Abby Wolk made two saves in 45 minutes to earn the win for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals out-shot the Bobcats 34-13 on the game and 14-3 in the first quarter alone.
Bates looks to bounce back next Saturday when the Bobcats visit Trinity for a 12pm start.
