Lewiston, Maine (Wallach Tennis Center) - Bates College women's tennis, in its final showing of the fall, heads into the off-season on a high note as the Bobcats defeated visiting Endicott College Saturday by the score of 7-2.
Bates collected its first two points in doubles competition. The senior tandem of
Grace Kennedy (New York, N.Y.) and
Laura Littlefield (Ellicott City, Md.) knocked off Endicott's Ashley Keaveney and Olivia Martinelli, 8-5, in the #2 slot. Sophomores
Ava Lyon (Naples, Fla.) and
Drew Williams (Guilford, Conn.) dismissed Olivia Berler and Shelby Henry in the #3 match, 8-3.
The garnet-and-white dominated in singles play, recording five of a possible six points to seal the victory for the Bobcats.
Joanna Atwater (Sr.-Short Hills, N.J.), in the #1 position, upended Ripley Uyeda by the score of 6-1, 6-1. #2
Ally Friedman (Jr.-East Hampton, N.Y.) collected a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lejla Guster.
The aforementioned Littlefield followed at #3 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Endicott's Keaveney to earn a second taste of victory on the afternoon. #5 Williams did the same for the garnet and white with a 6-4, 6-2 sendoff of Henry.
Elizabeth Frekko (So.-Lake Forest, Ill.) also got in on the action with a strong 6-2, 6-0 win over Sam Hartmann in the #6 match.
The Bobcats will return to the court in February.
