Lewiston, Maine (Garcelon Field) - Shortly after being honored with her fellow senior teammates,
Elizabeth Patrick (Cooperstown, N.Y.) made it a Senior Day for the ages as the team captain netted both goals for Bates College as the Bobcats (4-6-2, 1-5-2 NESCAC) doubled up #20 Tufts University, 2-1, in a NESCAC women's soccer upset.
Patrick poured in her first tally of the contest in the 12th minute (11:57) after pilfering a Tufts defender and planting a blast into the upper right quadrant. It would be Patrick answering the call once again at 26:35 as the senior scorched a ball into the same spot, this time from about 20 yards out.
The Jumbos (8-3-1, 4-3-1 NESCAC) had its opportunities, no more so than a penalty kick effort at 51:31, pushed wide left by Tufts' Maddie Pero (Sr.-Corte Madera, Calif.). Madelyn Silveira (Andover, Mass.) accounted for the visitor's lone goal as the junior headed in a loose ball of an initial free kick by Lily Keiderling (Gr.-Chicago, Ill.). at 83:37.
Ruby Reimann (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) made the most of her second start of the season as the sophomore secured two saves on eight shots en route to the keeper's second win (2-1) of the year. Kaelin Logue (Sr.-Scituate, Mass.), took the loss for Tufts after allowing both Bates' goals in her 45:00 of action.
The garnet and white returns to Garcleon Field Monday night to close out its home slate with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt vs. St. Joseph's College (ME).
