Lewiston, Maine (Alumni Gym) - Bates College continues to seek its first taste of a conference triumph this autumn as the Bobcats, hosting #16 Wesleyan University, dropped a 3-0 decision (25-16, 25-14, 25-8) to the Cardinals in NESCAC women's volleyball action.
Wesleyan, now a perfect 4-0 in conference play, improves to 12-1 overall on the season. Bates suffers its fourth-straight setback, slipping to 4-7 (0-5 NESCAC) on the year.
Mariko Tanaka (San Francisco, Calif.) stole the show for the victors, flooring a match-best 12 kills on 15 attempts (.733 hitting percentage). The junior middle blocker also soared for five blocks in the victory. Lila Sayre (So.-Berkeley, Calif.) followed with seven kills and three denials.
Maya Lopansri (So.-Park City, Utah) and Grace Dennis (Sr.-Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) split the setting duties for Wesleyan, dishing 19 and 10 assists, respectively. Jenna Otalola (Gr.-San Diego, Calif.) topped all players with 13 digs.
Katie Kortekaas (So.-Manhattan Beach, Calif.) paced the Bobcats with seven kills.
Alyssa Lowther (So.-Wyckoff, N.J.) contributed six of her own in the effort.
Emma Eide (Jr.-Ramsey, N.J.) distributed 12 assists and controlled eight digs for the garnet and white.
The Bobcats next see action on Saturday, Oct. 8 with a tri-match at #24 Tuft University. Bates takes on the host-Jumbos at noon before squaring off vs. #17 Hope College (Mich.) at 2:30 p.m.
