LEWISTON, Maine -- Junior
Courtney Gray tallied two goals and assisted on another in a 3-0 win for the Bates women's soccer team over Maine Maritime Academy Tuesday night at Garcelon Field.
Gray (Belmont, Mass.) made the most of her third career start as a Bobcat. She assisted on the opening goal of the game, an absolute corker from junior
Elizabeth Patrick (Ipswich, Mass.) in the 16th minute from 25 yards out. Gray dropped the ball off to Patrick who launched it over the MMA keeper's head and into the back of the net.
Patrick set up Gray for the latter's first collegiate goal in the 23rd minute. On a breakaway down the far side, Patrick delivered a perfect cross to Gray who one-timed it past the keeper for the insurance tally.
Bates led 2-0 at halftime and Gray used her head to pick up the brace in the 59th minute. Junior
Cece Pilgrim (North Kingstown, R.I.) executed a perfect corner kick from the near side and Gray headed it sharply over the keeper's head, capping the scoring for Bates.
The Bobcats (1-0) tallied 23 shots (12 on goal) while the Mariners (1-2) did not record a shot on the night.
Senior
Kat Nuckols (Los Angeles) played all 90 minutes in goal to pick up the win for Bates. Bess MacArthur played all 90 minutes in goal and made seven saves for the Mariners.
Bates is back in action Saturday when the Bobcats welcome Hamilton to town for the NESCAC opener at 11am on Russell Street Field.
