INDIANAPOLIS -- Bates College will be represented by two All-America student-athletes, junior
Elise Lambert and senior
John Rex, at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, taking place next weekend at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C.
Lambert (Amherst, N.H.) is seeded fourth in the women's 800-meter run; Rex (Andover, Mass.) will compete as the eighth seed in the men's hammer throw.
Only the top eight finishers in individual events score team points and win All-America honors.
Rex will make his fourth trip to an NCAA Championship meet, and his second outdoors. Rex placed 15th in the hammer at the 2019 Outdoor Championships, and he earned All-America honors in the weight throw, in which he was seeded sixth, after the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships were canceled a day before they were to take place.
With a top mark this season of 191'6", Rex is seeded eighth among 17 competitors in the men's hammer throw competition, which will take place on Saturday, May 29 starting at 10:30am. Qualifiers' marks range from 206'9" to 182'10".
Lambert will be seeded fourth in a field of 19 runners in the 800 meters, based on her season-best time of 2:10.68. Preliminary heats will take place on Friday, May 28 at 4pm, with the finals being run Saturday, May 29 at 1:50pm. Qualifiers' times range from 2:03.25 to 2:13.08.
It is Lambert's third NCAA Championship invitation, and her first in outdoor track. She earned her first career All-America honor by helping Bates finish second in the indoor distance medley relay at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. She claimed her second All-America award as a qualifier in the 800 meters at the 2020 Indoor Championships that were canceled a day beforehand.
