Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates women's tennis team scored a resounding 8-1 victory at Trinity College on Sunday, in the Bobcats' first dual match since March 7, 2020, and their first conference match since April 28, 2019.

Bates (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) nearly swept the Bantams (2-1, 1-1 NESCAC), who scored an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to avoid the shutout.

Hannah Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.) defeated Isabella Hartman 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and teamed up with fellow senior captain Haley Washington (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) for a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles over Lily Everett and Morgan Wilkins. Washington also won at No. 6 singles in three sets over Wilkins.

Sophomores Joanna Atwater (Short Hills, N.J.) and Alexandra D'Aquino (Weston, Conn.) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to score Bates' first team point. Atwater went on to defeat Josephine Kimball in three sets at No. 2 singles, while D'Aquino won in straight sets at fifth singles over Ashley Walker.

Sophomore Victoria Scott (Edgartown, Mass.) and first-year Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) also scored singles victories for the Bobcats. Scott defeated Angelina Shyltsyna in straight sets, while Friedman's collegiate singles debut was a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win at No. 4 against Lily Everett.

Bates next plays Tufts at home on Saturday, April 24 at 2pm.
