Krishna Kakani led a Bates sweep of the first nine individual finishes, as the reserve runners on the No. 25 nationally ranked Bobcats dominated the three-team Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.
With Bates' top runners this season taking the week off from competition ahead of next Saturday's NESCAC Championships, the Bobcats displayed impressive depth once again, scoring a perfect 15 points ahead of second-place UMaine-Farmington (61 points) and host Bowdoin (64).
Kakani (Monroe, N.J.) covered the 8-kilometer course at Bowdoin in 26:44.9 to lead the Bobcats, 1.8 seconds ahead of runner-up junior teammate
Gabe Coffey (Bangor, Maine).
First-year
Calvin Capelle (Laguna Beach, Calif.) finished third (27:03.6), while first-year
Andrew Mottur (Rumford, R.I.) placed fourth (27:06.3) and sophomore
Timothy O'Neill (New York, N.Y.) placed fifth (27:09.2) to finish Bates' team scoring.Â
Senior
Max Bartley (Presque Isle, Maine) and first-year
Nicholas Brown (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished sixth (27:15.5) and seventh (27:19.1) to serve as the team's displacers, while first-year
Cam Stathos (Wellesley, Mass.) and sophomore
Jason Nahigian (Needham, Mass.) also finished ahead of any opponent, taking eighth (27:26.1) and ninth (27:43.6) places, respectively.
Bates will send 15 runners to compete in next Saturday's NESCAC Championships, hosted by Trinity College at Wickham Park. The men's race starts at 12pm, followed by the women's race at 1pm.
