MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team defeated No. 19 Tufts 6-3 on Sunday at Wesleyan University, to claim fifth place in the 2020 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship tournament.
First-year Ella Lungstrum (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched perhaps the key victory of the day for Bates at the No. 5 position. Facing Tufts' Diya Sanghi, who had defeated her in three games at Bates on Jan. 14, Lungstrum defeated Sanghi in the only five-game match of the day, 11-13, 11-9, 13-11, 4-11, 11-8.
Senior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) won her 12th match in a row at the No. 1 position, extending her season record to 15-1 with a 3-1 victory over Claire Davidson.
Other winners for the Bobcats included:
- First-year Erika Parker (San Salvador, El Salvador) won in straight games against Isabella Schneider at No. 2.
- Sophomore Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) defeated Chloe Kantor 3-0 at No. 6.
- First-year Cordelia Dotson (Houston, Texas) won 3-1 at No. 8.
- Sophomore Natalie Bachman (New Canaan, Conn.) dropped the first game but won 3-1 over Radhika Joshi at No. 9.
The match was a repeat of the fifth-place match at the 2018 NESCAC Championship, in which Bates also defeated Tufts 6-3.
Bates (12-4) will return to action at the CSA Team Nationals, being held Feb. 21-23 at Yale.
