NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The nationally ranked No. 16 Bates women's squash team lost to No. 15 Middlebury 7-2 in its final match of the Kurtz Cup, the B Division of the College Squash Association Team Championships, played at Yale today.
The Bobcats, the No. 8 seed in the Kurtz Cup, finished the season with a 12-7 overall record. The Panthers were the No. 7 seed and finish the year at 9-10.
Senior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) won for Bates at the No. 1 spot. She defeated Ideal Dowling 11-1, 11-8, 11-7. Polgar is now 16-2 this season. At No. 7, first-year Victoria Haghighi (Bronx, N.Y.) topped Natasha Lowitt in a five-game back-and-forth battle. Haghighi won the first game 11-5, and Lowitt took the second 9-11. Haghighi earned another 11-5, win before her opponent won game four 11-8. Haghighi clinched the victory with an 11-7 win in game five.
The College Squash Association Individual Championships will be held at the University of Pennsylvania March 6-8.
