LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team concluded the regular season with an 8-1 win over No. 18 Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon at the Bates College Squash Center.
Bates (10-3) honored seniors Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) and Alyssa Rohan (Geneva, Switzerland) before the match.
And Polgar, the team's captain, continued her remarkable season with a 3-1 (11-7, 10-12, 11-1, 11-9) win over Audrey Berling at the No. 1 position. Polgar sports a record of 12-1 in 2019-20 while playing all her matches at the top of the lineup.
The future looks bright as well, with all four first-years in the starting lineup winning for Bates against the Diplomats (6-6) on Saturday.
Reigning NESCAC Women's Squash Player of the Week first-year Erika Parker (San Salvador, El Salvador) swept Emily Knapp 3-0 (11-4, 11-9, 11-8) at the No. 2 position and first-year Ella Lungstrum (Brooklyn, N.Y.) downed Sam Sankaran 3-0 (12-10, 11-7, 11-3) at the No. 5 position.
Fellow first-years Victoria Haghighi (Bronx, N.Y.) and Cordelia Dotson (Houston, Texas) earned hard-fought wins at the No. 7 and 8 positions respectively. Haghighi defeated Zoe Quayle 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6) and Dotson rallied from one game down to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-1, 11-9, 14-12) over Grace Smith.
Elsewhere, junior Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) bounced back from a tough loss in her first game to win 3-1 (18-20, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3) over Emily Bartos at the No. 3 position. Sophomore Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) split her first two games before winning 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5) at the No. 6 position over Pratiksha Mishra. And sophomore Natalie Bachman (New Canaan, Conn.) rolled to 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-3) victory over Adina Rubenstein at the No. 9 position.
The Bobcats travel to Wesleyan University next Friday for the three-day NESCAC Championships.
