Men's track team competes well at both BU Terrier Classic and USM Invitational

BOSTON and GORHAM, Maine -- A full complement of Bates men's track and field athletes competed Saturday at one of two meets, with some competing among track elite at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University, while the rest of the squad was at the USM Invitational.

Bates highlights from BU included:

Senior Justin Levine (Boca Raton, Fla.) ran the 3,000 meters in 8:37.04, while first-year Eli Boesch-Dining (Concord, N.H.) followed in 8:45.92.
Junior John Rex (Andover, Mass.) placed fifth out of 43 men in the weight throw with a top effort of 59'11.75".
Sophomore Jackson Elkins (South Deerfield, Mass.) led three Bobcats in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.20.
First-year Daniel McConnell (Califon, N.J.) ran the 800 meters in 2:00.74.
Senior Gabe Benson (Maplewood, N.J.) ran the 800 meters in 2:00.82.
First-year Peter Ackley (New Albany, Ohio) ran the 400-meter dash in 50.68 seconds.
Sophomore Liam Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) ran the 400-meter dash in 51.91 seconds.
First-year Owen Glover (Andover, Mass.) ran the 500-meter dash in 1:07.67.
First-year Evan Antonakes (Ipswich, Mass.) ran the 200-meter dash in 23.41 seconds.
Senior captain Anas Reda (Casablanca, Morocco) ran the 200-meter dash in 23.69 seconds.
Sophomore Bart Rust (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) led three Bobcats in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:53.72. Sophomore Nicholas Reznik (Bar Harbor, Maine) finished in 15:20.55 and first-year Gabe Coffey (Bangor, Maine) finished in 15:20.55.
Sophomore Nicholas Stathos (Wellesley, Mass.) led four Bobcats in the mile with a time of 4:19.66. Sophomore John Mieszczanski (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed in 4:22.01, with junior Ryan Nealis (London, England) in 4:23.59 and junior captain Jeremy Bennett (Windham, Maine) in 4:25.85.
Winning their section of the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:28.22 were Liam Evans, Ackley, Elkins and Glover.

At the USM Invitational, Bates 53 points to place sixth among 10 participating teams.

Top-five event performances by the Bobcats at the USM Invitational included:

Junior Zach Smith (Waterville, Maine) placed fourth in the weight throw (44'9.75").
First-year Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed fifth in the weight throw (44'9").
Sophomore John Everett (Winchester, Mass.s) placed fifth in the shot put (43'9").
Junior Brendan Donahue (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) placed fifth in the pole vault (13'1.5").
Junior Milan Lemon (Plantation, Fla.) placed fifth in the 55-meter dash (6.78 seconds).

Bates next competes in the all-divisions Open New England Championships, being held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Friday and Saturday, and also the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
