No. 19 women's squash sweeps its way to 9-0 win over No. 26 Connecticut College

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The No. 19 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team swept every match on its way to a 9-0 win over No. 26 Connecticut College on the campus of Yale University Friday night. 

Bates (5-5) was once again led at the top of the ladder by reigning NESCAC Player of the Week junior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) who improved to 9-1 on the season with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-2) victory over Davis Lemay at the No. 1 position. 

Senior captains Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) and Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) took care of business at the No. 2 and 3 positions respectively, with Alexova winning 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-5) over Margaret Davey and Arjoon defeating Molly Carabatsos 3-0 (11-6, 11-1, 11-7).

Sophomores Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) continue to provide a big boost to the Bobcats since their respective returns to the team. Manternach swept Denise Bonilla 3-0 (13-11, 11-6, 11-4) at the No. 4 position and O'Brien easily dispatched Johanile Hurtado 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-4) at the No. 5 position. O'Brien has won 11 matches in a row going back to last year.

Youth and experience alike prevailed on Friday for Bates.

First-years Natasha Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) and Natalie Bachman (New Canaan, Conn.) won at the No. 6 and 9 positions respectively, with Jones defeating Liliana Vazquez 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-8) and Bachman winning 3-0 (11-7, 11-0, 11-3) over Noelle Giuliano. 

Meanwhile the dynamic duo of seniors Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) and Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) won at the No. 7 and 8 positions. Brooks defeated Jacqueline Chu at No. 7 by a count of 3-0 (13-11, 11-2, 11-4) and Bull rushed by Birgitta Quinn at No. 8 by a score of 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-9).

The Bobcats return to action next Friday the 25th when they take on Tufts on the campus of Harvard University for a match that gets underway at 6pm.
