No. 18 women's squash wins at top two positions in 7-2 loss at No. 15 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team won a pair of matches Sunday at No. 15 Middlebury but the Panthers defeated the Bobcats by a final score of 7-2.

Junior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) improved her personal record to 7-1 on the season, defeating Middlebury's Beatrijs Kuijpers 3-1 (11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7) at the No. 1 position. Polgar, a two-time first team All-NESCAC selection, has won three straight matches.

Meanwhile senior captain Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) improved her personal record to 5-3 on the season with a 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-7) win over Ideal Dowling at the No. 2 position. Alexova, a three-time All-NESCAC selection, has never lost a match when Bates plays Middlebury in her career.

Despite Bates' wins at the top two positions, the Panthers (7-1) took control early against the Bobcats (3-5) on Sunday, winning at the No. 3, 6 and 9 positions to start the match. Two of the three early matches were quite close with senior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) giving Middlebury's Alexa Comai all she could handle before falling 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-9) at the No. 3 position. Senior Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) took her opponent Natalie Madden to four games before falling 3-1 (11-4, 11-2, 11-13, 11-4) at the No. 6 position.

The Bobcats return to action this Thursday when they visit rival Colby College. The match is set for 6pm.
