LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 24 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team won its third straight match with a 7-2 victory over No. 17 Tufts Friday night at the Bates College Squash Center.
The Bobcats (5-5) swept six matches in their win over the Jumbos (9-4) and junior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) won a thriller at the No. 2 position. She defeated Tufts' Claire Davidson 3-2 (9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 4-11, 13-11) to pick up her eighth win of the season.Â
Fellow juniors Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) and Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) won as well, with Alexova taking down Zarena Jafry 3-0 (11-5, 11-5, 11-3) at the No. 3 position and Bull winning 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 12-10) at the No. 9 position over Chista Irani.Â
At the No. 1 position, sophomore Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) swept Julie Yeung 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-2) and sophomore captain Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 (15-13, 11-6, 11-8) victory over Hannah Burns at the No. 4 position.Â
First-years Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) and Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued their strong starts to their careers with 3-0 wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions respectively.Â
The Bobcats face a stiff challenge on Saturday when they host No. 29 Franklin and Marshall at 11:00 a.m. and No. 12 Brown University at 4:00 p.m.Â
