LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team finished their season strong with a 6-3 win over No. 16 Middlebury in the 15th place match Sunday afternoon at the College Squash Association Team Championships.
Bates (15-6) finishes the season with their most wins since 2011-12 and their fewest losses since 2004-05.
The Bobcats' strong play at the top of the ladder continued on Sunday, with their top five players all winning.
First-year and first team All-NESCAC selection Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) won her rematch from the NESCAC Championships with Middlebury's Beatrijs Kuijpers in impressive fashion, prevailing 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 12-1) at the No. 1 position.
With the victory, Polgar improves her personal record to 17-4 on the year.
Sophomore and two-time first team All-NESCAC selection Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) swept Anne Glassie at the No. 2 position. Alexova's 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-5) victory improved her personal record to 16-5 this season.
Sophomore and two-time second team All-NESCAC selection Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) defeated Alexa Comai 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-6) at the No. 3 position.
With the victory, Arjoon improves her personal record to 15-6 on the season.
Senior co-captain Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) dropped the first game of her match before rallying to win 3-1 (13-15, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9) over Mira Chugh at the No. 5 position.
Down the ladder, sophomore Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up a crucial victory at the No. 7 position. She edged Middlebury's Audrey Ellen 3-2 (13-11, 11-7, 4-11, 5-11, 14-12) in a tight five-game contest, giving Bates their fifth win of the day and thus clinching the match.
Bull showed outstanding improvement as a sophomore, finishing the year with a 14-7 record after going 3-16 as a first-year.
The Bobcats had already clinched the match by the time first-year Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) wrapped up her five-game battle with the Panthers' Liddy Renner. Nonetheless, the two players delivered some thrills in a narrow 3-2 (11-8, 11-2, 5-11, 6-11, 13-11) win for Dunham at the No. 4 position.
Select Bates women's squash players will compete at the CSA Individual Championships March 3-5 at Dartmouth College.
