CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 15 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team dropped a close match by a count of 5-4 Sunday to No. 16 Franklin & Marshall at the College Squash Association Team Championships.
Bates (14-6) picked up wins for the second straight day at the No. 1 and 2 positions.Â
Senior three-time All-American Ahmed Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt) finished the team championships with a 3-0 record and increased his winning streak to 19 matches with a 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-2) win over Cole Osborne at the No. 1 position.Â
First-year Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) won his 12th match of the season with another comeback victory. He defeated Silvio Soom 3-2 (11-9, 5-11, 1-11, 11-6, 11-6) after falling behind two games to one at the No. 2 position.Â
Sophomores Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) and McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) also picked up victories on Sunday.Â
Cannon swept Jackson McCord 3-0 (11-5, 13-11, 11-4) at the No. 6 position and Abbott swept Gavan Hitchenor 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-4) at the No. 7 position.Â
The Bobcats dropped a pair of five-game matches at the No. 4 and No. 8 positions respectively.
Junior Anirudh Nambiar (Bangalore, India) traded blows with Yannis Senke before falling 3-2 (11-9, 10-12, 11-3, 5-11, 13-11) at the No. 4 position.
Meanwhile first-year Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) gave Boden Polikoff all he could handle at the No. 8 position before falling 3-2 (11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 3-11, 12-10).Â
Select Bates men's squash players will next compete at the CSA Individual Championships March 3-5 at Dartmouth College.Â
