No. 18 men's squash wins sixth straight, takes down No. 23 Colby 8-1

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team visited Colby on Wednesday and took down the 23rd ranked Mules by a score of 8-1.

With the victory, the Bobcats (10-2) win their sixth straight match. The win marks the 16th consecutive year that Bates has defeated Colby (8-9) and Bowdoin in the regular season. The Bobcats have not lost to the Mules since 2000.

Senior three-time All-American Ahmed Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt), the reigning NESCAC Men's Squash Co-Player of the Week, won his 11th consecutive match on Wednesday with a 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-6) victory over the Mules' William McBrian at the No. 1 position.

The Bobcats also swept matches at the No. 2, No. 6 and No. 9 positions. 

First-year Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) moved up the ladder and won his sixth consective match with a 3-0 (11-4, 12-10, 11-7) win over Patrick McCarthy at the No. 2 position.

Sophomores Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) and McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) shined as well. Cannon won 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-6) over Jason Brodo at the No. 6 position and Abbott prevailed 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-3) over Charlie Beauregard at the No. 9 position.

At the number three position, senior Darrius Campbell (St. Stephen, S.C.) dropped his first game but rallied to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8) over Elliot Gross.

Fellow seniors Spencer Burt (Portland, Ore.) and Carlos Ames (Williamstown, Mass.) also won in four games. Burt, the Bobcat captain, defeated William Pepi 3-1 (11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7) at the No. 5 position and Ames rallied to win 3-1 (5-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9) over Sam Hitt at the No. 8 position.

First-year Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) competed in a thriller at the No. 7 position. Bonnell fell behind 2-1 but took game four 13-11, forcing a game five, which he won 11-5 to clinch a 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-5) win over the Mules' Matthew Epstein. 

The Bobcats host No. 21 nationally ranked MIT this Saturday at the Bates College Squash Center at 4:00 p.m.
