AMHERST, Mass -- Senior three-time All-American
Ahmed Hatata won his 10th consecutive match at the No. 1 position and the No. 18 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team defeated No. 20 Amherst 8-1 Sunday morning at the Amherst Round Robin.
Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt) swept the Purple and White's (4-4) top player Michael Groot 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-2), one of six matches the Bobcats (9-2) swept on Sunday.
Junior Anirudh Nambiar (Bangalore, India) swept Cameron Bahadori 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 13-11) at the No. 4 position and the Bobcats' No. 6-9 players all swept their opponents as well.
Sophomore Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) took down Lucas Sheiner 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-9) at the No. 6 position. First-year Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) earned a 3-0 (13-11, 11-6, 11-6) win over Chris Zimmerman at the No. 7 position.Â
Senior Carlos Ames (Williamstown, Mass.) continues to make the most of his opportunities in his home state, winning 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-8) at the No. 8 position over Mateen Mills. Sophomore McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) held down the fort at the No. 9 position with a 3-0 (11-3, 12-10, 11-4) win over Mitchell Ford.
At the top of the ladder, senior Darrius Campbell (St. Stephen, S.C.) and first-year Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) both picked up nice victories.
Playing at the No. 2 position, Campbell took down Harith Aslam Khawaja 3-1 (11-4, 7-11, 11-5, 11-5) and Yousry earned a 3-1 (11-3, 12-14, 11-9, 11-7) win over David Merkel at the No. 3 position.Â
Hatata, Yousry, Cannon and Ames all finished the Amherst Round Robin with 2-0 records.
Bates is back in action at rival Colby this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
