LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates women's soccer team saw seven players score in an 8-0 non-conference victory over the University of Southern Maine Sunday afternoon at Russell Street Field.

Bates (2-1) took the lead for good in the fifth minute of the game. From the middle of the USM end of the field, senior Erin Shea (Marshfield, Mass.) passed to sophomore Olivia Amdur (Chicago, Ill.) on the left. Amdur outraced the Husky defense, then faked past goalkeeper Taylor Canastra before blasting a shot into the open net, for her second goal this season.

The Bobcats made it 2-0 in the ninth minute. Shea passed a short corner kick to senior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine), who served up a long ball toward the right side of the penalty area, where first-year Riley Turcotte (Middletown, R.I.) punched it in for her second goal of the season.

The lead expanded to 3-0 before halftime. In the 33rd minute, first-year Sarah DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) headed Shea's corner kick wide right. The loose ball came out in front to junior Hannah Behringer (Old Lyme, Conn.), who blasted the ball from 15 yards out into the upper right corner.

The third minute of the second half saw Bates grow its lead to 4-0. DiPillo's centered to junior Brigid Quinn (Santa Fe, N.M.) in the middle; Quinn juggled briefly, turned and shot into the low right corner for her first career goal.

In the 55th minute, DiPillo notched her first collegiate goal, carrying a pass from senior Hannah Graves (Weston, Mass.) into the right side of the box and unleashing a beautiful long shot inside the far upper corner of the goal.

Graves added her second career goal in the 58th minute with another long shot into the upper left corner, after a dump-off pass from senior Ana Urbina (Bow, N.H.).

Bates made it 7-0 in the 70th minute on Turcotte's second goal, getting a pass from Julia Rosen, juggling and turning for her team-high third goal this season.

Urbina and Graves connected on Bates' final goal in the 85th minute, as Graves' corner kick found Urbina uncovered the middle of the penalty area for an uncontested shot.

The Huskies' Adela Kalilwa got two shots off on goal in the second half that required saves from junior goalkeeper Allegra Sacco (Medway, Mass.) to preserve the shutout.

Canastra made 10 saves in goal for the Huskies (2-2). Bates junior starting goalie Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made two saves in the first half, and Sacco made two in the second half on the combined shutout.

USM plays its home opener on Wednesday against Little East rival Salem State at 4pm; Bates returns to NESCAC play Tuesday at 4:30pm at Bowdoin.
