LEWISTON, Maine -- Julia Rosen found the back of the net in the 62nd minute but it was not enough as the Bates women's soccer team fell to Hamilton by a score of 3-1 Saturday at Russell Street field.
Rosen '18 (Springfield, Ill.) scored the ninth goal of her career on an assist from sophomore Olivia Amdur (Chicago, Ill.).
But the Continentals (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) got goals from three different players in the match to pull out the victory over Bates (1-1, 0-1 NESCAC).
The Bobcats put the pressure on Hamilton early in the match. Just 13 seconds into the match Amdur fired a shot on goal that was saved by Hamilton's Emily Dumont. Dumont finished with six saves on the afternoon.
Bates recorded two more shots before Hamilton recorded their first shot of the match at the 5:56 mark, a shot on goal by Maddie Dale that was saved by junior goalkeeper Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). McCarthy finished the match with six saves.
At the 13:41 mark, Hamilton, Ali Clarke took advantaged of a poor header in the box by Bates to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season, putting the Continentals up 1-0.
After the first goal of the match, Bates had a couple of great opportunities. Back-to-back Amdur shots just barely missed, with one going wide right and another hitting the cross bar.
Then near the end of the first half, at the 43:55 mark, Hamilton's Jessie Murray delivered a perfect ball to Amanda Becker, who tallied an easy goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
Down 2-0 at the half, Bates made their move in the 62nd minute. Amdur delivered a perfect ball into the box and Rosen finished to cut the Hamilton lead to 2-1.
But the Continentals continued to relentlessly attack the Bates defense down the stretch.
In the 78th minute, Murray beat her defender on the left side and slipped a shot that rolled into the corner of the net to give Hamilton some insurance.
Shots were fairly even in the match with the Continentals out-shooting the Bobcats 17-15.
Bates returns to non-conference play on Sunday when they host Southern Maine at noon at Russell Street Field.
Hamilton's next match is at Oneonta on Wednesday.
