HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 16 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team swept every match they won in an 8-1 victory over No. 29 Connecticut College Sunday afternoon at Trinity College.
Sophomores Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) and Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) both improved to 3-0 on the year with victories at the No. 7 and No. 8 positions. Bull defeated Caroline Lippincott 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-4) at the No. 7 position and Brooks took down Phoebe Pilakas-Smith 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-1) at the No. 8 position. Bull matches her victory total from last year with her victory.Â
The Bobcats (2-1) got strong performances up and down the lineup. Youth continues to be served for Bates. Their top four players are all either sophomores or first-years.Â
Sophomore Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) won her match with Mawa Ballo 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-4) at the No. 1 position. First-year Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) improved to 2-1 on the year with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-0) win over Adrienne Sieverding. Sophomore Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) took down Anne Holly 3-0 (11-1, 11-4, 11-6) and first-year Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) prevailed 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-3) over Nina Nalle.Â
Senior co-captains Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) and Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) provided plenty of depth with 3-0 wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions respectively. Dunn beat Davis Lemay 11-4, 11-7, 11-8 and Cabot knocked off Jacqueline Chu 11-3, 11-3, 11-0.
The Bobcats host No. 18 nationally ranked Bowdoin on Friday, December 2 at 6:00 p.m. for their home opener.Â
