BANGOR, Maine -- Sophomore Cassidy McCarns scored her first two goals of the season to lead the Bates women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over the Husson University Eagles Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats (3-8-1) used a dominating first half performance to jump out to a big early lead against the Eagles (6-6) in the victory.

The Bobcats out-shot Husson 12-0 and scored three goals in the first half of play. Overall, Bates out-shot the Eagles 19-6.

Bates had an early opportunity in the seventh minute when junior Hannah Behringer (Old Lyme, Conn.) took a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. But her shot was denied by Husson goalkeeper Kayla Gordon.

But less than a minute later, Behringer got a free kick opportunity. The free kick bounced off Gordon right to McCarns (Branford, Conn.) who cleaned up for the third goal of her career.

In the 11th minute, sophomore Olivia Amdur (Chicago, Ill.) delivered a perfect corner kick that Behringer headed home for her third goal of the season.

Amdur remained aggressive on offense, tallying the next four shots in the match. Then in the 23rd minute she threaded the ball through a pair of Husson defenders to the far post where first-year Torri Pelletier (Topsham, Maine) finished for the first goal of her college career.

The Eagles did not record a shot until the 49th minute when Hannah Clough's shot missed wide.

Bates felt comfortable enought with their lead to take out junior goalkeeper Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) in the 60th minute to give backup keeper Allegra Sacco '18 (Medway, Mass.) some action between the pipes.

McCarthy did not have to make any saves in goal on Sunday but Sacco ended up making three, with her first coming in the 68th minute on a shot by Mollie Roy.

In the 80th minute, Amdur took another corner kick and the Eagles were unable to clear the ball. McCarns trapped it and sent a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the day, matching her total from last year.

With the win, Bates records their third shutout of the season. All three of their victories this year have been shutout wins.

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday for their final home match of the regular season, a 4:00 p.m. match against Thomas.
