Volleyball sweeps second NESCAC match in a row, 3-0 over Trinity

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team evened its conference record at 3-3 with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-20) sweep of Trinity College Saturday afternoon in Alumni Gymnasium.

The visiting Bantams (6-9, 1-6 NESCAC) saw their two-match winning streak end while the host Bobcats (6-9, 3-3 NESCAC) swept a conference opponent for the second time in as many days, following Friday's win over Wesleyan.

Bates attacked at a .213 percentage for the match and came up with 12 blocks. Trinity attacked at a .079 percentage.

Senior Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) had a match-high 12 kills while attacking at a .250 clip for Bates, while first-year Taylor Stafford-Smith (Calabasas, Calif.), sophomore Claire Naughton (Darien, Conn.) and junior Lisa Slivken (New York, N.Y.) added seven kills apiece. Stafford-Smith also had a season-high 11 digs, while Naughton and Slivken notched four and three blocks apiece.

Bates junior setter Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) totaled 34 assists to go with seven digs. First-year Gabi Eustache (New York, N.Y.) had match highs with 20 digs and five service aces, while first-year Julia Panepinto (Buffalo, N.Y.) posted 17 digs.

Hanna Engstrom led the Bantams with seven kills and just one error on 23 attempts (.261); Wyllie Boughton was second on the team with five kills. Randi Whitham recorded a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs. Grace Metry and Rachel Underwood were also in double-digits on digs with 14 and 12, respectively.

Bates next plays a NESCAC match at Tufts on Friday at 7pm.
