REDLANDS, California – The Bates women's tennis team suffered the first loss of the spring Tuesday when the Bobcats fell 7-2 to the University of Redlands in California. The team was swept in doubles competition, before recovering for a two wins in singles competition on Tuesday out West.
Redlands won the number one, four, five, and six spots, but for Bates, Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) won the number two spot, 7-6 and 6-2. Then first-year Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) defeated Redlands Emily Marnin in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to give the Bobcats their second victory on the day.
The Bobcats will resume play on Friday, when the team takes on Whittier College Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
