LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's squash team's All-American duo of
Ahmed Abdel Khalek and
Ahmed Hatata won points at the top two spots on the ladder, but No. 1 nationally ranked Trinity College swept the remaining matches for a 7-2 victory on Saturday at the Bates Squash Center.
The No. 17-ranked Bobcats (3-2) had both Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt), the defending national individual champion and Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt), a two-time All-American, both playing against the Bantams for the first time in their three seasons together.Â
After dropping his first set since the CSA individual championship match last March, Abdel Khalek won his 47th match in a row, defeating Trinity First Team All-American Rick Penders 3-1 (5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4) at the No. 1 spot.Â
Hatata dispatched fellow All-American Juan Vargas at No. 2 in straight sets, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, as Bates took two points from the Bantams for the first time.
Trinity's Affeeq Ismail defeated Bates junior Darrius Campbell (St. Stephen, S.C.) by a 3-1 score at No. 3, and at No. 7 it was Nku Patrick downing Bates first-year McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) 3-1. Five Bantams took 3-0 decisions against the Bobcats, in Tom De Mulder at 4, Omar Allaudin at 5, James Evans at 6, Mudit Pant at 8 and William Douglass at 9.
