LEWISTON, Maine – Senior Alex Millstrom scored her first career goal in the 90th minute to lift Bates College women's soccer to a 2-1 win over Hamilton College in its NESCAC home opener on Saturday afternoon at Russell St. Field.

The Bobcats (3-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from senior Dakota Donovan (Marblehead, Mass.) in the 54th minute before the Continentals (2-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) tied the game on a goal from first-year Amanda Becker (Chappaqua, N.Y.) in the 81st minute.

Bates pulled out the win with just over 30 seconds remaining as Millstrom (Melrose, Mass.) – a newcomer to the team this season – powered through a defender on the edge of the box, took a touch toward the end line, and slotted a shot to the left of the goalkeeper.

The hosts opened the game's scoring just less than 10 minutes into the second half as junior Leah Humes (Beaconsfield, Quebec) sent a ball from the right wing into the center of the pitch where first-year Julia Rosen (Springfield, Ill.) controlled it and sent a pass to Donovan who lofted a shot over the keeper for her second strike in as many games.

Hamilton responded after going down 1-0, recording three corner kicks and three shots (one on goal) from the 54th to the 62nd minutes. Bates continued to attack as well, registering five shots in a four-minute span shortly thereafter.

Becker almost found an equalizer for the visitors in the 79th minute as she took down a cross from sophomore Ali Clarke (Evergreen, Colo.) and sent a shot just outside the left post. She broke through two minutes later as she won a loose ball on the right side of the box and slipped a shot into the goal, trickling in off the keeper's gloves.

Hamilton generated the better of the first half's chances as a shot from first-year Katie Kreider (Boxford, Mass.) went off the top of the crossbar in the 17th minute, and the Continentals earned five corners in a nine-minute stretch midway through the period.

Bates senior goalkeeper Alyssa Morgosh (Carlsbad, Calif.) made seven saves in the win (3-0-0) while Hamilton first-year goalie Rachel Cooley (Branchburg, N.J.) stopped four shots in the loss (2-1-0).

The Bobcats beat the Continentals for the first time since Hamilton began playing regularly in the NESCAC in 2011.

Next, Bates plays at Bowdoin College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while Hamilton plays at RPI tomorrow at 1 p.m.
