WHITTIER, Calif. – Junior Elena Mandzhukova and first-year Elizabeth Erbafina won together in doubles and each won in singles to help push Bates College women's tennis past Whittier College, 5-4, at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

In the final match of their California trip, the Bobcats (2-1) went up 2-1 after doubles play and picked up three victories in singles to defeat the Poets (1-3).

In doubles, the duo of Mandzhukova (Lisbon, Portugal) and Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) edged Adrienne Hamada and Gabi Etchegaray on court No. 1, 9-7, while junior Alexandra Hakusui (Boxford, Mass.) and sophomore Emma Blakeley (Hope, Maine) teamed to win, 8-4, at the No. 3 spot.

Mandzhukova picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Hamada at first singles, and Erbafina followed suit with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Etchegaray at the No. 2 position. Sophomore Eleanor Hough (Summit, N.J.) captured the Bobcats' other singles win in a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

Next, Bates plays Smith at Mount Holyoke College on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.
