Box Score LEWISTON, Maine -- Michelle Medina scored a goal in each half to lead Connecticut College to a 2-0 victory over the Bates women's soccer team Saturday at Russell Street Field.
The Camels, ranked sixth in New England by the NSCAA, improved to 8-1 with a 3-1 record in conference play. The Bobcats suffered their first home loss of the season, falling to 6-4 with a 3-4 mark in the NESCAC.
The Camels opened the scoring in the 24th minute of play. Mackenzie Kingston delivered a cross into the middle of the box. Astrid Kempainen controlled it to Medina, who found the back of the netting for her third goal of the season.
Medina tacked on an insurance marker in the 61st minute with Livi Block and Kempainen providing assists.
Bates was outshot by a 22-4 margin, but first-year goalkeeper Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made eight of her 11 saves in the second stanza to keep the game close for the Bobcats.
First-year students Ana Urbina (Bow, N.H.) and Hannah Behringer (Old Lyme, Conn.) accounted for the Bobcats' two shots on goal.
Bryanna Montalvo made two saves en route to her fifth shutout for the season for the Camels.
Connecticut College built an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.
Bates will resume play this Thursday, when they visit the University of New England for a 6:30 p.m. game in Biddeford, Maine.
