NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bates College women's squash defeated Franklin & Marshall 8-1 on Sunday morning after falling to Dartmouth 7-2 and Stanford 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Yale Round Robin at the Brady Squash Center.
The 12th-ranked Bobcats (8-5) picked up their victory in the team's final match of the weekend against the 18th-ranked Diplomats (5-10). Bates lost to No. 8 Dartmouth (2-5) in its first match at the event and dropped its match against No. 7 Stanford (4-3) in its Saturday night cap.
The Bobcats won on courts 1-3 and 5-9 against the Diplomats. Junior Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia), classmate Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.), and senior Samantha Matos (New York, N.Y.) paced Bates with victories on court Nos. 1-3 in order.
On court Nos. 5-9 respectively, junior Chloe Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.), senior captain Rakey Drammeh (New York, N.Y.), senior Ashley Brooks (Roslindale, Mass.), sophomore Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe), and first-year Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) emerged victorious.
Ariffin picked up one of the Bobcats' points against Dartmouth with a straight set win in the No. 1 position. Matos collected the team's other point with a three-set victory at No. 3. Ariffin and Brooks gained points for Bates against Stanford.
Next, Bates hosts Colby on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for Senior Night.
