Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – Bates College men's soccer competed evenly with undefeated No. 15 Trinity for 110 minutes to earn a point in a 0-0 double-overtime match at Russell St. Field on Saturday afternoon.
For the Bobcats (1-2-2, 0-2-2 NESCAC) sophomore goalkeeper Joe Maffly-Kipp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made five saves to record his first shutout of the season while the Bantams (6-0-1, 3-0-1) used two keepers – Domenic Quade and Jason Katz – to combine for the clean sheet in the first game this year in which Trinity did not emerge victorious.

Trinity outshot Bates 19-13 in the game, but each side placed just five shots on goal. The visitors held a 6-3 advantage in shots in the overtime periods forcing Maffly-Kipp to make three saves over the match's final 20 minutes.
The Bobcats threatened to score in the second overtime period as a shot from junior Nick Ford (Columbus, Ohio) sailed just over the crossbar in the 102nd minute. Bates almost broke through in the second half as well as a header from senior Ethan Kass (New York, N.Y.) similarly traveled above the woodwork.
The Bantams gained one of their best scoring opportunities in the 35th minute as Will Stankiewicz fired a shot just over the bar after a Bobcat turnover. The visitors registered the only three shots in the first extra session and put two of their three shots on frame in the ensuing stanza.
Ford and Kass paced the hosts with three shots apiece while senior Tyler Grees (Williamstown, Mass.) led the team with two shots on target. For the Bantams, Fernando Torello and Christian Carrasquil led all players with four shots each. Both players placed a shot on goal in the second overtime.
Next, Bates hosts No. 4 Amherst tomorrow at 3 p.m. while Trinity plays at No. 23 Tufts tomorrow at 3 p.m.
