The Continentals (2-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) scored in the 72nd minute as Victoria Freeman directed in a corner kick with Becca Rees providing the service to gain separation from the Bobcats (2-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC).

The visitors gained a free kick just outside the penalty area in the match's waning seconds, but a shot from sophomore Caitrin Griffin (Geneva, Ill.) went high of the target.

The Bobcats attacked several times down the right flank after Hamilton found the back of the net but were unable to answer. First-year Jessica Vocaturo (Columbus, N.J.) sent several flip throws into the box, but the Bobcats could not capitalize on any of those opportunities. Vocaturo also registered two shots in the final 12 minutes.

Bates senior goalkeeper Anabel Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) made six saves in the loss while Hamilton's Liza Gergenti stopped five shots in her 15th career shutout. The Continentals outshot the Bobcats, 19-12.

Next, the Bobcats play at No. 10 Brandeis on Sunday at 1 p.m. before returning to Lewiston to take on Bowdoin on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
