Men's soccer plays to 0-0 draw at Hamilton

Goalkeeper Zach Shabman '16 stopped a career-high nine shots.

CLINTON, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Shabman recorded his second shutout of the season as Bates College men's soccer played to a 0-0 draw in double overtime at Hamilton College on Love Field on Saturday afternoon.

Shabman (Scarsdale, N.Y.) tallied a career-high nine saves in his fourth career shutout. The net minder made an important save in the 86th minute before making two critical stops in the first overtime period – one on a streaking Dan Kraynak (Hamilton, N.Y.) and the second on a lofted ball off the foot of John McGuinnis (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).

The Continentals kept Shabman busy early in the game as well as the Bates keeper notched five saves in the opening 26 minutes.

The Bobcats (1-1-1, 0-1-1 NESCAC) and Continentals (1-1-1, 0-1-1) each registered their first NESCAC point of the young season despite Hamilton outshooting Bates 24-5 in the game. The Continentals placed nine shots on goal to Bates' one and posted five shots in the overtime sessions to none for the visitors.

Senior Ethan Kass (New York, N.Y.) placed Bates' first of two shots on goal in the game in the 27th minute while sophomore Noah Riskind (Bethesda, Md.) put the team's second shot on target at the 58:03 mark.

Hamilton's Fred Porges (Short Hills, N.J.) stopped two shots for his first clean sheet of the year.

Next, Bates continues NESCAC play at Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
