Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – First-year Peabo Knoth scored twice in the first half to lead Bates College men's soccer past Colby College, 5-1, in the final regular season game for both teams on Wednesday afternoon at Colby Soccer Field.
The Bobcats (5-7-2, 1-7-2 NESCAC) secured their first win over the Mules (4-10-0, 0-10-0) since 2008, breaking Colby's streak of four straight wins in both teams' regular season finales. The four-goal margin of victory marked Bates' highest in a NESCAC game since a 7-1 win against Connecticut College in 2004.
With his two goals, Knoth (Portland, Maine) finishes his rookie campaign with a team-high 18 points on a tied for team-high six goals and team-best six assists.
Also for the visitors, sophomore Luis Pereira (Curitiba, Brazil) notched his sixth goal on the year in the second half while junior Sean Moyo (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) posted three points on a goal and an assist – both in the second stanza.
Junior Lee Sandquist (Doylestown, Pa.) registered his first goal of the year in the second period while classmate Nick Ford (Columbus, N.J.) and first-year Matt DiVite (Murray Hill, N.J.) each tallied assists.
For the hosts, Nate Tolman scored off a pass from Charlie Dupee in the opening half.
In the win sophomore goalkeeper Joe Maffly-Kipp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made four saves while Cody Funkhouser stopped seven shots for the Mules.
Knoth and Moyo paced the Bobcats with three shots apiece while Colby's Jack McGeachie led all players with five shots.
Colby held advantages in shots (16-12) and corner kicks (7-0) in the match.
